French Class for Spanish Teachers | Summer Institute

French Class for Spanish Teachers (and All Language Educators) This 8-week summer experience is designed for language teachers who want to acquire French while deepening their instructional practice. While created with Spanish teachers in mind, this course is open to any educator for whom French is not their primary language. Participants will learn French through a fully immersive, Comprehensible Input-based approach—experiencing firsthand what it feels like to be a language learner in a proficiency-centered classroom. You won’t just study the language; you’ll live the experience your students have every day. Each session is followed by an optional 15-minute professional learning debrief, where we unpack the strategies used during class. Together, we’ll analyze how these moves support student comprehension, engagement, and communication across the three modes: interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational, as outlined in the framework. You’ll leave with concrete, classroom-ready strategies you can immediately apply in your own teaching. This course is both a joyful language-learning journey and a meaningful professional development opportunity.
