Get Them Talking (in French) !
Simple routines that build confidence, interaction, and more student-to-student French
Service Description
Getting students to speak French is one thing. Getting them to speak French **to each other, consistently and with increasing confidence**, is another. In this practical, classroom-ready workshop, we’ll explore simple routines that help make student-to-student communication a regular part of the French classroom without adding a ton of planning or putting all of the conversational work on the teacher. You’ll see how routines like the **2-Minute Drill** can move students from individual thinking and writing, to partner conversation, to spontaneous whole-class interaction, while encouraging students to stretch from words and phrases toward sentences, elaboration, and longer responses. We’ll also look at how a **Statistic of the Day** can become a quick, high-interest launch point for interpretation, opinions, questions, comparisons, and conversation. Throughout the session, we’ll focus on practical ways to: * create low-anxiety opportunities for students to speak * build routines students can quickly learn and repeat * encourage follow-up questions and sustained interaction * differentiate speaking expectations across proficiency levels * reward communication, risk-taking, and elaboration rather than perfection * reduce teacher talk while increasing meaningful student French The goal is not to add more activities to your plate. It is to leave with a few flexible routines you can use again and again to help students become more comfortable, independent, and confident communicating in French. You’ll also get a glimpse into the kinds of proficiency-focused resources, strategies, and professional learning available through the **AfroFranco Teacher Collective PLC**.
